Travel resources

Check out some of these helpful sites when traveling on a budget:

Accomodation

Chouchsurfing: For the brave among us who are willing to sleep on a strangers floor, couch, or even a spare bed this option is 99% of the time free and 100% of the time cheap cheap.  Keep in mind only trust people who have been reviewed and to improve your chances of getting hosted, ask your friends and fellow travelers to review you until someone hosts you, and always ask them to review you and review them back.

AirBnB: The safer way to find cheap vacation rentals. You can rent entire flats and homes or a room in a house. The next step up from couch surfing this costs money but is WAY safer then craigslist, trust me.

transportation

Megabus: I have found buses cheaper then trains in many countries for traveling long distances, of course nothing beats my own two feet and when in cities there is usually tubes, metros, trams, subways, etc. whatever it may be.

Ryanair: Ryan air is the cheapest I have found for domestic short flights within Europe and the UK, but a word to the wise to avoid a 70 pound cost check in ahead of time and print of your e ticket!!!!

For larger flights I have always used (in an incognito tab always!!!) Skyscanner or FlightHub.

When in doubt Rome2Rio it (Google maps works too because Rome2Rio’s ground transit options are sometimes out of date.)

What to do and see on a budget

Most large cities offer free (or based on a donation) walking tours of cheap and free sights with a little bit of history (keep in mind the tour was free though so the facts are to be taken with a grain of salt in my experience). You can find these by walking around main streets and sights around 11 am and 1 pm or by asking in any information center, hostel, or tourist office.
